How we approach editing & proofreading
Good editing is the difference between a manuscript and a book. We work in stages: first the big picture of structure, pacing and argument, then the sentences, then grammar and consistency, and finally a proofread of the typeset pages. Every change comes as a tracked edit you can accept or reject.
Every project is handled by a dedicated project manager, priced in writing before work begins, and delivered with you owning everything we produce.

What's included
Manuscript assessment
An editorial letter on structure, pacing, character or argument, with clear priorities.
Developmental edit
Big-picture changes to how the book is organised and how it holds the reader.
Line edit
Sentence-level work on clarity, rhythm and tone, keeping your voice intact.
Copy edit
Grammar, punctuation, spelling and consistency, checked against a style sheet.
Proofread
A final pass on the formatted pages to catch anything introduced in layout.
Style sheet
A record of names, spellings and conventions used, so later editions stay consistent.

Each stage is approved by you before the next begins.

A written scope, schedule and fixed price. You see exactly what is included before you pay anything.
- 3
Write and edit
Your project manager runs the schedule while writers and editors work through the manuscript with you.
- 4
Design and publish
Cover, interior and retailer setup, all approved by you, then published in your name.
- 5
Launch and grow
Marketing, reviews and ads that bring readers to the book in its first months and beyond.
Editing & Proofreading questions
Which kind of editing do I need?
Send us a sample and we will tell you. Most first drafts benefit from a developmental edit first; polished drafts often only need a copy edit and proofread.
Will editing change my voice?
No. Our editors make suggestions in tracked changes, explain the bigger ones, and you decide what stays.
How long does editing take?
A copy edit of an 80,000-word manuscript usually takes two to three weeks. A developmental edit takes three to five weeks.
